The process of Change

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost .... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend that I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in this same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit ... but, my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street. - Portia Nelson

Preventing Headaches

Some people are lucky. They experience headache very rarely. But for some unlucky others it recurs quite frequently. Why does it occur? And what can be done to prevent it?

1] Eat at proper times: Hypoglycemia [low blood sugar level] is one of the common causes of headache. Many a times we become so engrossed in work that we do not eat on time. Eating small regular meals can help prevent a headache.

2] Drink lots of water: Dehydration affects the brain and can cause headache. A glass of water [ small or large] every hour should be your goal.

3] Get proper Sleep: Too many late nights may give us short term fun but it may also result in headache. Going to bed on time and catching up on lost sleep can prevent many a headaches.

4] Avoid going in the Sun: For many migraine sufferers going out in sunlight can trigger a headache. Whenever there is a need to go out in the afternoon use a cap and minimize the exposure to the Sun.

5] Managing Stress effectively. Stress is a potent trigger for headaches. These days stress cannot be avoided. The only solution is to manage it effectively.

6] Avoid Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits can trigger migraine. Hence citrus fruits like pineapple, oranges etc should be avoided.

7] Avoid a direct blast of air: A blast of air causes sinuses to be blocked thereby resulting in headache.Hence avoiding the breathing of a direct blast from an AC or when travelling can prevent headache.

8] Get fresh air: Being in a stale, damp place can also trigger a headache. Hence ensure that you get fresh air all the time.

If you take all the precautions and still get a headache you may need to visit the doctor to rule out any other illness.

Be Creative

"I don't want to just make a living. I want to live" - Oscar Wilde

We are all similar in many ways.

Haven’t we wanted to do something creative but instead ended up with doing something mundane? Why does it occur?

Self doubt is the obstacle for Creativity. Can we remove our self doubts?

There are 3 kinds of people.
1] People who have no desire for creative work.
2] People who have desire but also have self doubts.
3] People who have desire but no self doubts.

The first category is very rare.
And so is the third!

Most of us are in the second category. We feel that creativity is the privilege of the lucky few who do not have self doubts.
Self-doubt is something that plagues most creative souls at one time or another.

One of the best remedies for self-doubt is action. And the best way is to start small. Let go of the need to make a masterpiece. This moment, do something creative that brings delight.

Keep taking risks for your art. Taking risks helps squash those pesky self-doubts in a powerful way. Not all our risks will have the results we want, but every risk gives us the inner knowledge that we are capable of much more than we realize.

An artist is the one who can fail and fail and still go on - Agnes Martin
